Shiv Govind Singh is Professor of and head of Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Hyderabad, India. His multidisciplinary research Creative Heterogeneous Integration Process for Sensors and Systems (CHIPS Lab) group conducts highly impactful investigations in the area of nanotechnology: MEMS, 3D-IC, lab on a chip & Nano-Bio/Gas sensor. Prof. Singh has offered creative solutions to many of the most formidable challenges of micro/nano-electronics through his pioneering research. The crowning jewel of his research is the development of a device for detection of COVID-19. He has developed India's first electronic RNA test kit for COVID-19 detection and is already validated by ICMR partners institute CCMB Hyderabad. It is already under process of manufacturing.
This invention attracted applauds and accolades from erudite experts in the arena of nanotechnology and earned him the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Award/Medal from The President of India. INAE Innovative Student Best Thesis Award 2018 has also been conferred upon the PhD student working on this project.
Another very important research contribution is the development of a device for ascertaining milk purity named “Raj-Hansh” after the mythical bird capable of distinguishing between milk and water.
Prof. Singh not only initiated and established 3D IC research in India but also achieved numbers of milestones therein. His technology has been licensed by Solid Block Pvt. Limited for commercialisation.
INAE Search-cum-Selection Expert Committee has selected Prof Singh for the conferment of Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship 2020. This selection is in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of Bio/Sensors, 3D IC, MEMS/NEMS and Lab on Chip as well as his contribution in the growth of the engineering profession in the country.
Prof Singh was visiting Assistant Professor at Purdue University, USA in 2012 and Visiting Assistant professor at IIT Bombay in 2011.
Prof. Singh is the editorial board member of two highly reputed journals – Nature Scientific Reports. He is a core member of many committees at the national and International committee. He has more than 225 peer reviewed publications including several invited papers and reviews in various journals of repute and 10 patents.
